Dr. Thomas Wilhelms recently completed CDOCS Level 3, a 4-day advanced implant course hosted by Spears Education in Charlotte, NC. The course is designed to provide training on hard and soft tissue grafting in order to prepare a missing tooth site for implant placement. The first two days focused on bone and gums grafting. The final two days concentrated on techniques to safely and predictably perform a sinus lift bone graft, allowing for implant placement in patients with inadequate bone mass. The course also presented detailed instructions on how to identify and treat potential complications during and after surgery. Dr. Wilhelms has been placing dental implants since 2008. “The implant field has evolved a lot in the past 15 years,” he noted, “3D imaging technology allows us to visualize an exact replica of a patient’s jawbone, making it possible to place the implant in the most ideal spot. Advances in tissue grafting also enable us to deliver the best restoration both functionally and esthetically.”
