Dentures are artificial teeth and gums that are formed to your mouth and created by Parkview Dental professionals to replace lost or removed natural teeth.
Information About Dentures From Parkview Dental
Dentures can either be full or partial, which means they can either replace all your teeth on either the top or bottom gum line, or perhaps just a few that are missing. Regardless of which kind you may need, your dentures will be custom designed to fit your mouth, and visually matched to your existing teeth if necessary.
Dentures help keep the structure of the mouth sound by supporting the structures around the cheeks and lips, they also assist in the appearance of your smile. Dentures will also make it possible to eat foods that require chewing, making it possible to ensure that you are properly nourished, and confident in your smile. Having dentures fitted means that troublesome teeth are eliminated and replaced with a strong and beautiful alternative.
Implant Retained Dentures
Conventional dentures rely on maximizing contact between the denture (pink acrylic portion) and the gum tissue to provide stability. As a result, the prosthesis tends to be bulky and uncomfortable to wear. Due to the way the denture is held in place, it would normally cover the whole roof of our mouth, reducing the ability to talk, eat and taste. Conventional dentures also don’t confer the same biting and chewing force compared to natural teeth. Conventional dentures need to be replaced over time as the teeth and acrylic wears out and your bone anatomy changes. As the jaw bone resorbs away, it results in the denture to feel loose or rub.
Implant retained dentures are anchored by 2 or more implants, providing far superior stability and comfort while leaving the roof of our mouth uncovered. Two implants provide significant retention but more can be added if additional retention is needed.
Pros of Implant Dentures
- Stability during eating (less likely to shift; never falls out)
- More comfortable to wear (less rubbing or sore spots)
- Bone and gum preservation
- Improved esthetics (customized to fit the natural look and smile)
- Slimmer design
- Easier to talk with
- No messy adhesives
Caring for implant retained dentures is similar to caring for conventional dentures. Remove them at night and keep them clean by brushing them daily and soaking them in a cleaning solution. The nylon attachment that locks on to the implant abutment will need to be replaced annually which can be done in only a few minutes by your dentist.
Want to Know More?
Tired of bulky, uncomfortable, loose traditional dentures? Implant-retained dentures are a more secure, comfortable, and convenient alternative to traditional dentures that can significantly improve your quality of life. Full or partial implant-retained dentures are held firmly in place by 2-4 implants placed into the jaw bone so there is no rubbing, slipping, or irritation. Additional benefits of implant-retained dentures include superior chewing function, esthetics, and reduction of bone loss.
